Burn Unit Coloring Book

Noodle Soup proudly offers a thoughtful and sensitive coloring book for pediatric burn patients and their families. Let's Learn About the Burn Unit helps them cope with their burn injury and manage the difficult procedures and experiences inherent to burns. The book will assist Child Life Specialists and other medical staff in the orientation and preparation process of their young patients. The pictures are realistic but do not show photographic detail.

The 28-page book includes:

The coloring book was developed by MetroHealth Medical Center Child Life Specialists, Cleveland, Ohio in conjunction with the Burn Unit Team and Dr. Richard Fratianne, Director of BICU.

The Spanish coloring book was carefully translated by Avelino Garza of Shriners Hospital for Children, Galveston, Texas.

Studies have shown that children who received a combination of systematic preparation, rehearsal, and supportive care conducted prior to each stressful procedure were significantly less upset and more cooperative than those unprepared. Visintainer and Wolfer, 1975.
